Back in January 2026, when the Gemini-powered Siri overhaul was announced, everyone was excited to see a glimpse of the new agentic Siri in the coming months. So far, there has been no trace of the AI or Siri in iOS. With the WWDC 2026 event coming up next month, hopes are high that the new Siri will debut with iOS 27. However, a new report now suggests Apple might release Siri as a "beta", even after its long delay.
Apple Could Label Siri as "Beta" in iOS 27
As per Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter via Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly planning to launch Siri at the upcoming WWDC 2026 event, but with a "beta" tag attached. The new Siri AI chatbot is said to have appeared in a test version of iOS 27 with a "beta" label.

While it is hard to infer at the moment if Siri beta is limited to developer beta versions of iOS or for the public releases as well, it does hint at Apple's lack of certainty and confidence with Siri in iOS 27. Gurman states that users will get a toggle to leave Siri beta, which will either let them continue with the existing Siri or join Siri with agentic AI capabilities.
This could be concerning since Apple has already fallen short of the competition and very recently had to settle an Apple Intelligence delay lawsuit due to their inability to deliver on a full-fledged AI experience even after 2 years.

While it is unclear how Apple will approach the entire Siri beta situation, the Siri overhaul in iOS 27 will be feature-packed. Gurman's report also has revealed that just like ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini, Siri will also bring a new chat auto-deletion feature.
Once toggled on, it can either keep chats for 30 days before deleting them or keep records of conversations for up to a year. Users can also choose to keep conversations forever and will also gain the option to launch Siri with either a new conversation window or a Messages-style conversation list.
Lastly, alongside Siri, it seems Apple will also upgrade its Genmoji Apple Intelligence-powered emoji generation tool with new automatic suggestions. It can work in a similar way to Android's Emoji Kitchen and will allegedly use the iPhone's Photos and Keyboard history to generate new AI emojis by itself, making the entire process context-aware and agentic.
That said, we are just shy of a month before WWDC 2026 happens. Expectations are high from fans for the future of Siri, and it is now up to Apple to deliver on their promises and take iPhones towards a truly agentic AI future.
