While smartphone manufacturers are still testing Android 17, and some are yet to even acknowledge it, Xiaomi has caught its users by surprise. The brand has officially begun rolling out stable HyperOS 3 update based on Android 17 to its smartphones, making it the very first Android manufacturer outside of Google Pixels to do so.
Xiaomi 17 Series Gets Android 17 Update
Spotted first on Ximitimes, Xiaomi has started rolling out a new HyperOS 3 update to Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra based on Android 17. Unfortunately, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max have been excluded for now, for reasons unknown. The update carries firmware number 3.0.332 and weighs around 8 GB in size on the base model and 10 GB on the Ultra variant.
While initially believed to be limited to European models, a few X users from India confirmed they, too, have seemingly also received the update. Besides, Android 17 is reportedly also rolling out to the Xiaomi 15T Pro, though it's currently restricted to early testers in the Mi Pilot channels.

That said, despite the massive file sizes, the official changelog completely omits any mention of Android 17 and highlights standard stability enhancements and the June 2026 security patch. There are no visual improvements either, since it's still based on HyperOS 3.3. The only way to know is by going to About Phone after the installation.
Despite the massive file size, Android Authority reports that major Android 17 features like App Bubbles, Screen Recording Reactions and more are missing from the build. The only visible change is the slightly tweaked app icons, which appear a bit smaller.
Most of the new features are expected to arrive in HyperOS 4, which Xiaomi has yet to officially confirm. However, given that HyperOS 4 China and Global ROM were recently spotted on Xiaomi's servers, the next big HyperOS version should soon roll out to all HyperOS 4 eligible devices.
To top it all off, reports also suggest that Xiaomi is tapping into Rust and Flutter to make HyperOS 4 feel fast and responsive. Another HyperOS 4 UI leak suggested major UI changes and a Leica Colour palette
With Xiaomi being the second surprise manufacturer to ship the Android 17 update, Samsung could follow with One UI 9 on its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. That is, if no other manufacturer pulls out a surprise Android 17 update trick out of their hats.
