Apple is introducing a new way to edit photos after they have already been captured with its new Image Reframing feature that is coming with the iOS 27 update. It uses AI to spatially reposition the camera and edit the photo all over again from a different angle, filling in the gaps naturally with AI.
Spatial Reframing Gives You a Second Chance at Capturing the Moment
Spatial Reframing is one of the new Apple Intelligence features announced with the iOS 27 update. It combines on-device spatial models with its own image generation capabilities to allow users to reposition the angle of the image by touching, pinching and dragging.

The feature is powered by Apple's on-device spatial models and Private Cloud Compute, meaning it processes quickly and keeps images private. Users can find this feature under the Photos > Edit > Tools > Reframe, and it is available to all Apple Intelligence-supported devices getting the new update.
The feature does not regenerate the entire image. It only adds new content to fill in the areas where the perspective has shifted, keeping the reframed photo consistent with the original scene. This is actually harder to pull off, since it requires the AI to understand the spatial layout of the scene.
Apple made a point to mention that Spatial reframing works with all images, new and old, not just the ones clicked from an iPhone.
Besides Spatial reframing, iOS 27 also includes other photo editing tools like the new Extend tool, which adds more content to the image with the help of AI. Additionally, there's an improved Clean Up tool for object removal. Reframe will be available to iPhone users when iOS 27 is released publicly this fall.
