It's been a while since Apple's Made in India push gained momentum, and it's already rapidly cementing India's position as the world's next major manufacturing hub. Apple recently revealed new production numbers, and what started as a strategic pivot away from China to avoid US tariffs, Apple's Made in India output has reached greater heights.

Every one in four iPhones is made in India

According to Bloomberg and Mark Gurman, Apple assembled over 55 million iPhones in India in 2025 alone. That's a massive 53% jump from the 36 million units produced in 2024. This means India now accounts for 25% of Apple's global iPhone production out of the 230 million iPhones made annually.

This was made possible thanks to collaborations with Tata Electronics, Foxconn and Pegatron, as a part of the Make in India campaign. These firms are now assembling the entire iPhone 17 lineup locally, including the premium Pro and Pro Max models.

Besides, Apple is reportedly also expanding its footprint beyond final assembly. The brand is actively looking to expand its local supplier partnerships to make important parts in India. This includes Lithium-ion batteries, chassis and accessories like AirPods.

The Cupertino Giant is also doubling down on the domestic consumer market. With local sales breaking past the $9 Billion barrier, Apple is rapidly scaling its software too, as it prepares to bring Apple Pay to India later this year.

Besides, the brand has opened six brand new Apple stores in rapid successions, and is currently in talks with to secure new incentives with the government of India to keep the momentum going.

As for what this could mean for the end consumers, expect iPhones to get slightly cheaper if the subsidies go through. In two to three years down the line, as Apple manages to manufacture more parts in India, iPhone prices could see yet another slight drop, with even the service parts and prices getting cheaper.

Speaking of which, beyond manufacturing and selling, Apple has partnered with Tata to boost iPhone repairs in India. More complex repairs ranging from iPhones to MacBooks will now be handled by the Tata Electronics plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

With Apple strengthening its relations and base in India, shipping out more iPhones than ever, the giant is already en route to take on the top contenders in the market. A recent report from Omidia suggests iPhones already boast a 11% market share in India, appearing in the fifth position, right below Xiaomi.
