Apple has been doubling down on iPhone security lately, with new iOS updates, plugging vulnerabilities and issuing critical hot fixes. While these iOS updates have been bundled either with cyclic OS releases or issued as critical patches, the Cupertino brand wants to follow a different release strategy going forward.
Apple Plans To Release Security Updates In Advance
In an official statement to Reuters and via a dedicated Apple Support page, the Cupertino brand has confirmed that it is now following a new security update release cycle wherein they are being made available earlier to iPhone users. The newly released iOS 26.5.2 update is a good example of this.
Such updates have previously been bundled with cyclic software releases. However, the brand says that with the rise in AI-driven security concerns, it has become imperative to ship new security releases before any major vulnerabilities occur.

Bad actors have been able to speed up the process of developing malicious tools due to the rise of AI. Apple says that this creates immense cybersecurity risks and also accelerates the possibility of major breaches.
We have already seen instances of iOS hacks and breaches where exploits like "Coruna" and "DarkSword" have managed to take advantage of outdated security protocols to gain access to iPhones. The brand also released an urgent iOS 18 update a few months back and seeded iOS 16.7.15 and iOS 15.8.7 updates for older Apple iPhones to bring them up to date with the latest security standards.
Hence, with Apple now prioritising security releases, it could be a good sign of assurance for iPhone users. The update structure is similar to what Google offers with its Play Protect System releases on Android.
