Google is expanding its AI mode to five additional languages – Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese. The support for these languages is rolling out right now, bringing AI search features to more regions.
For those unaware, AI Mode uses Google's custom Gemini 2.5 model to handle queries with multimodal and reasoning capabilities. However, those on Google's AI Pro and Ultra plans get access to a Gemini 2.5 Pro-powered AI Mode. Google says the addition of new languages will not only lead the results to be translated but will also be locally relevant.

For those unaware, Google introduced AI Mode this year in March 2025, and has since then expanded it to a host of countries. It allows users to, for example, generate travel itineraries, search for a topic with multiple sources or compare information without having to click through multiple links.
Until now, AI Mode has been limited to a smaller set of languages with English as the primary option. With the feature adding support for some of the most spoken languages worldwide, Google is targeting some of the largest internet populations.
The expansion highlights Google's efforts to get more users on board as it faces competition from Perplexity, OpenAI and Microsoft. While Google says support for new languages is rolling out, it has yet to roll out fully.
We tried asking questions in Hindi and AI Mode returned "AI Mode is only available in English at the moment", suggesting it might be rolling out gradually. Users can try out AI Mode in new languages by clicking the AI Mode tab in Google search results or by going to the AI Mode page.
