In classic Google fashion, after two years, the tech giant is sunsetting its Pixel Studio app. The app, which was limited to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series, could generate wallpapers, stickers and more via mere prompts. A new Pixel Studio update has now been pushed, which reveals its demise.
Goodbye, Pixel Studio
Folks over at Android Authority spotted that the new Pixel Studio v2.3.001.911719150 update now displays a "To create images and animations, try Nano Banana in the Gemini app" message. There's also an "Open Gemini" button at the bottom to lead users straight to the Gemini app. Those who don't have the app on their phone will see a pop-up window to install it.

The publication also notes that, while users will be able to access their previously generated content, they won't be able to create new content. Additionally, the new Pixel Studio update retains the app's screenshot editing interface, which offers basic tools like crop, text, highlight, etc.
Last year, when Pixels got AI screenshot editing with Android 16's Pixel Studio, we were hopeful for a longer future. However, it appears that Gemini's Nano Banana is where Google wants to push its users for their photo-editing needs.
Moreover, with WWDC 2026 just at the door, Google seems to be buckling up to compete against whatever Apple has up its sleeve. Since the new Siri app will be an all-in-one hub for image and content generation, Google appears to be streamlining its AI ambitions with the Gemini app.
It also makes sense since at the Google I/O 2026, we saw the Gemini app get app integrations, thinking levels and more, thereby further strengthening its stance in a competitive market.
The new Pixel Studio update is out for Google Pixel phones via the Google Play Store. Interested users can simply head over there and give their condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Pixel Studio.
