Apple announced iOS 27 in WWDC 26 yesterday with a host of new features and improvements that add to the overall iOS experience. However, while the major features took the centre stage, there are a host of minor additions to system apps and settings as well. One of them is Enhanced Slideshows in the Photos app.
Apple's Photos App Gets Enhanced Slideshows and Shared Album
Spotted first by MacRumours, some of the other major iOS 27 features in Apple Photos are a completely revamped slideshow experience. Users of the app will now be able to play back their photos and videos together as a unified slideshow. Besides, the update also introduces Shared Albums, allowing users to share albums.

The Slideshows are largely customisable with options that allow individuals to manually set the transition style, adjust the overall slide duration and change background music. Additionally, iOS 27 also grants users the ability to save these customised slideshows directly as a permanent video to their library.
Shared Albums will let users collaboratively add and maintain albums. Some of the features in the same include the ability to add emoji reactions on content, a new dedicated view to monitor recent Shared Album activity and direct access to full-resolution photos and videos within the folder.
The update also adds flexible album organisation tools alongside a highly requested feature that allows users to capture and save individual video frames as standalone photos. Lastly, the new Photos app will also boast improvements in search results when looking up people and pets.
Beyond these features, Apple Photos is also getting Extend and Reframe AI features, which will allow users to add a generative fill to their photos to expand them or use Reframe to shift the perspective after the shot is taken. Then, the new Siri Mode in the Camera app uses Visual Intelligence to analyse what appears in the viewfinder and let users perform related actions. Siri mode also lets users split bills with friends, provide nutritional insights and more.
The first iOS 27 Developer Beta for Apple iPhones is already here, and more information about these features should be revealed as we inch closer to the stable release, so stay tuned!
