Summary

  • Samsung Phone application can now display audio and video call records generated by external communication platforms.
  • This functional upgrade is derived from a core API capability that Google introduced in the baseline Android 17 operating system.
  • The call log is currently meant to display WhatsApp and Google Meet calls, while other platforms are not supported yet.

After commending public testing for its next major software iteration, One UI 9.0, Samsung has deployed the same on the Galaxy S26 series. While the contents of the release don't fill any changelogs, the update is secretly introducing a quality-of-life feature for better call tracking.

One UI 9 Dialer Merges Third-Party Platforms

Spotted first by SamMobile, Samsung is introducing the ability for the default One UI 9.0 dialer to integrate and show VoIP calls from platforms such as WhatsApp. While currently limited to WhatsApp and Google Meet, support for more apps could arrive by the time it officially rolls out as one of the One UI 9.0 features.

Google rolled out VoIP call support in the Phone app as a part of Android 17. Since One UI 9 is based on Android 17 and thanks to the strong Google-Samsung partnership, the feature is rolling out despite Samsung using its own dialer app.

That said, the support is limited, but the responsibility of expanding the same to more apps also lies upon developers adopting the new Android framework. Apps like Telegram and Signal don't currently show up in the menu. However, considering the feature's relative newness, it should arrive very soon.

Google first demonstrated the same during the initial developer showcase as one of the Android 17 features a month ago. Users with a Samsung or Google Pixel phone can enable/disable the feature by simply going to their respective phone apps' Settings > 3-dot menu > Other call settings > Calling apps and enabling toggles for all the apps.

However, while WhatsApp is on this list and enabled, we could not make it appear on this list on a One UI 9 beta build on Galaxy S26. We tested it on a One UI 9.0 Beta build on the Galaxy S26 series, just like on the Google Pixels. However, that should change very soon with one of the upcoming WhatsApp Beta or Stable versions.

The second One UI 9.0 build is expected to drop soon, and the same goes for Android 17, which is expected to be out of beta in June 2026. More information about the feature's progress should be revealed as we inch closer to the official stable release, so stay tuned.
