The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a bold new design in the foldable landscape. It has a compact aesthetic that unfolds into a traditional iPad Mini-sized screen. It measures 9.7mm in thickness when closed and 4.5mm when open, weighing only 201 grams.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is a more traditional foldable phone, almost identical to last year's Z Fold 7. It offers more area on the cover display, a narrow design, and it unfolds to a square-shaped 8-inch display. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is also pretty thin at 4.1mm unfolded and 8.9mm when closed. However, it weighs more than the Z Fold 8 at 215 grams.
In terms of build quality, both phones use Samsung's Advanced Armour aluminium frame, coupled with IP48 protection for dust and water and a new Flex Titanium technology which Samsung claims should increase the durability of the folding screen and make the crease less noticeable, similar to the Oppo N6.

The display is the biggest deciding factor between both of Samsung's new foldable lineups.
Both phones come with Dynamic 2x AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate for both the main and the cover displays. This means you will get to enjoy exceptionally crisp picture quality with a smooth scrolling experience no matter which phone you pick.
Neither phone offers a major display upgrade compared to the older variants, likely to save costs.
But the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD+ cover display. This is a square-shaped cover screen similar to the rumoured iPhone Ultra. However, the smaller size makes it easy to use single-handed compared to the Z Fold 8 Ultra's sizeable 6.5-inch Full HD+ screen.
