Summary

  • An incoming call not showing on Samsung phone screen is a software problem. It may be a notification problem or another dialler app overriding the Phone app.
  • You can open the Phone app's notification settings and turn on the toggle for Allow notifications. You should also turn on Notification pop-up.
  • If this doesn't work, turn off DND, enable Appear on Top permission and uninstall third-party dialler apps.

Few things are more frustrating than hearing your phone ring, but nothing appears on the screen. This is one of the most common complaints made by Samsung users where the incoming call doesn't appear on the screen. That said, it can be fixed by yourself and in just a minute since it's a software issue. Below, I have added multiple fixes for an incoming call not showing on screen on Samsung phones. On that note, let us begin.

Why Is Incoming Call Not Showing on Screen on Your Samsung Phone?

Before we move to fixes, learn why incoming calls doesn't appear on your Samsung phone screen. Here are the common causes.

  • Call notifications are turned off: If the Phone app's notification is disabled, you will not see any incoming call pop-up or full-screen notification.
  • Wrong call display mode: Samsung lets you show incoming calls in full-screen mode or via a small pop-up card. If it's set to Pop-up, incoming calls will only show a small banner that is easy to miss.
  • Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode is on: DND can silence call alerts or hide the full-screen notification.
  • A third-party caller ID app: Apps like Truecaller or other dialler apps can hijack Samsung's native call screen.
  • A stale or corrupted Phone app cache may cause this issues after a major One UI update.

Now that you know why the problem occurs, let us fix it.

Restart Your Samsung Phone and Force Stop the Phone App

I know it sounds obvious, but you can reboot your Samsung phone to clear the temporary glitches that cause most call related failures. If that does not help, try force stopping the Phone app.

  1. First off, press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons and tap on Restart.
  2. Once the phone boots up, check whether incoming calls show up again.

  1. If the issue persists, long-press the Phone app icon and tap on the app info (i) button.
  2. Here, tap on Force stop. Now, reopen the Phone app and ask someone to call you to test if the problem is fixed or not.

Set Call Display to Full Screen on Samsung Phones

Samsung phones show incoming calls as a small pop-up by default when you are using another app and that pop-up does not always show up. In that case, switching to full screen forces the call to take over the entire display every time.

  1. Open the Phone app and tap on the 3-dot menu in the top-right corner to open Settings.
  2. Now, tap on Call display while using apps.
  3. Here, select Full screen instead of Pop-up or Mini pop-up.
  4. Now incoming calls will take over the screen no matter what you are doing.

Enable Call Notifications for the Phone App

If notifications for the Phone app are turned off, the incoming call will not show up on the screen on your Samsung phone. Here's how to set it right.

  1. Press and hold the Phone app icon and tap on the app info (i) button.
  2. Here, tap on Notifications and make sure Allow notifications is turned on.
  3. Next, enable all the toggles inside this page.
  1. After that, choose Default (Brief pop-up) under Notification pop-up style.
  2. And choose Default (Show always) under Show or hide content when locked. Now, you should see the notification when you get a call.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb to Show Incoming Calls

Do Not Disturb (DND) is one of the most common reasons an incoming call doesn't show up on screen on Samsung phones. Here is how to turn it off along with other options.

  1. First off, swipe down the Quick panel and make sure the Do not disturb tile is off.
  2. In addition, turn off any Focus modes like Bedtime Mode or Work that might be suppressing alerts.

Grant the "Appear on Top" Permission

For the incoming call to draw over whatever app you are using, the Phone app needs overlay permission. Samsung's One UI 8 calls it Appear on top. If the permission has been revoked, calls will ring, but without showing on screen. Here is how to fix it.

  1. Open Settings > Apps and tap on the 3-dot menu at the top. Now, open Special access.

  1. After that, tap on Appear on top and turn on the toggle for Call.

  1. Next, go back and open Full screen alerts. Here again, enable the toggle for Call.

Set Samsung Phone as the Default Calling App

If a third-party app has quietly become your default dialler, the stock call screen will not show. Here is how to set Samsung's Phone app back as the default calling app.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps and tap on Choose default apps.
  2. Here, open the Phone section and choose Phone (system default). That's it.

Remove Third-Party Caller ID Apps

Third-party caller ID apps like Truecaller are helpful for blocking spam calls on Android. However, they also intercept calls and override Samsung's native call screen. In some cases, it may leave you with a ringing phone without any incoming call notification.

  1. Temporarily disable or uninstall Truecaller any other dialler app on your Samsung phone.
  2. Ask someone to call you and check whether the call screen comes back.

And that's how you can fix the calling problem on your Samsung phone if the incoming call is not showing on the screen. I would also recommend disabling call forwarding in Samsung phones to prevent any call diversion. As a last resort, you can perform a full factory reset of your Samsung phone and see whether the issue has been fixed or not.
