Samsung's upcoming folding phones have been the talk of the internet lately. From the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide design leak to the Galaxy Z Flip 7's dummy unit, new information are pouring in daily. Now, the latest one points to a split processor strategy, separating the 'Fold' from the 'Flip'.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 Could Feature The Exynos 2600

As per tipster Erencan Yılmaz on X, Samsung is internally planning for a mixed chipset strategy for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Based on an analysis of Samsung's source code, the leaker claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could feature both Snapdragon and Exynos processors, depending on the region.

If true, there is a high chance that while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are locked in with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could very well launch with the Exynos 2600 processor and another Snapdragon chipset. This could mean Samsung reserving raw power and performance for its book-style foldables, while the clamshell fold will likely pivot towards sustained performance and efficiency.

While this is an interesting shift, it isn't anything new. Samsung has pivoted to a split chipset strategy with its Galaxy S series phones in the past. The South Korean brand has used this strategy before to differentiate the standard and 'Plus' models from the 'Ultra'. The Galaxy S24 was the last smartphone to launch with both Exynos and Snapdragon chips, depending on the region.

Hence, with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 reportedly launching in most regions with the Exynos 2600, it could be a sign that Samsung is trying to create a clear distinction between its 'Fold' and 'Flip'. It also shows the brand's confidence in its in-house fabrication, since the Exynos 2600 is the world's first 2nm mobile processor and also introduces the breakthrough Heat Path Block (HPB) SoC-integrated cooling solution.

That said, since there is no official word on this shift in chipset strategy, we urge readers to take the information with a pinch of salt. With the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 expected to go official at the Unpacked event in July 2026, we only have a couple of months left before launch. So, stay tuned.
