At the annual Google I/O 2026 developer conference last month, the tech giant made WearOS 7 official as the next-generation Pixel Watch OS, powered by Gemini Intelligence. Now, the brand has shipped the first stable WearOS 7 update to eligible Pixel Watches, alongside the stable Android 17 update.
Stable WearOS 7 Update Now Live for Pixel Watches
The first WearOS 7 release is part of the June 2026 Pixel Drop and isn't the full-fledged WearOS 7 experience, which will roll out later this year with the Pixel Watch 5. However, it includes some of the features announced at the Google I/O event, along with the June 2026 security patch.

The first is the new Wear Widgets, which are replacing the age-old full-screen swipeable Tiles via a 2x1 and 2x2 size formats, similar to widget sizes on smartphones. Google is calling them "flexible and dynamic," and they are expected to maintain system-wide consistency across devices.
Next is Live Updates, which are finally going live to Pixel Watches via WearOS 7 and are designed to give users real-time info with a quick glance at their wrist. It will work cohesively across devices, bringing the same experience to both smartphone and smartwatch for the shared app. It will unlock at-a-glance features like ETA tracking, delivery tracking, sports scores and more.

Lastly, the WearOS 7 stable update also includes the enhanced System Media Controls experience, bringing per-app media auto-launch controls right on the wrist. It will let users choose media controls on their smartwatch on a per-app basis. It is paired with a new remote audio output switcher to help users easily move between phone, smartwatch, speakers, earbuds and other devices.
Aside from that, the WearOS 7 stable update does not include those new Gemini Intelligence features that Google talked about. It also doesn't make the new app automation feature live, which is built around Gemini Spark.
That said, the WearOS 7 stable update is now live for the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4. The update is also said to expand to the upcoming Galaxy smartwatches, which are expected to go official next month. Google is expected to release the final WearOS 7 update in Q4 2026.
